BBC News - Why people change the way they speak

  1. Read the Wikipedia entry for the expression "Nanny State". In general this expression is used in reference to policies where the state is characterized as being excessive in its desire to protect, govern, or control particular aspects of society or groups of people.

They be more oppressive or more lenient with people yet it sometimes goes unnoticed that we all live in a Nanny State.

  2. This video reminds me of Aznar speaking Spanish with a Mexican accent when he was in the USA... I laughed my head off

  3. Come on!!! Aznar can also speak Italian!!! To be honest, his English accent speaking Spanish is pretty good!!! ;-)

When they talked about Tony Blair and how he is trying to speak with Cockney accent (he is Scottish for god sake!!!), it remind me of a really funny British sitcom: Misfits. One of the characters has a very strong cockney accent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wgcOsTY1iY

The first two seasons are fantastic!

  5. It seems that we change our natural way of speaking when we pretend to appear someone different from who we really are.
Why we do this: to deceive, to take advantage or is it simply a personal evolution?
Who knows? In the video there some examples and everybody knows someone who does that.
